Fisher Island is a barrier island in Miami-Dade County created in 1905 that has the distinction of having the highest per capita income of any area in the United States. The island’S namesake was Carl G. Fisher, who was an automotive parts pioneer and beach real estate developer. Fisher Island is located miles offshore of mainland Miami-Dade County. The island has only 226 households and 132 persons living in it as of the 2010 census.
